Hard to say, though, given the amount of spit swapping "early" life likes to go through.

As to my own speculative numbers, they are wildly, absurdly optimistic. Meant more as a "if things go incredibly right" ballpark figure. But the chances of even one colonizing bacterium making it to another star system, and surviving planetfall on an appropriate world is more like a one in a trillion year event. And the biggest deal breaker really is that all deadly hard radiation out there. I would speculate that the panspermian ancestral organism would be the hardiest to radiation. What we do know off genetic trackback suggests this is not the case - suggesting the first organisms on Earth were from Earth, enjoying the comfort food of those black smokers down in the depths.John Kurmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04607323621206823686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8581401473844438605.post-15170862122652377502011-12-16T12:06:51.275-08:002011-12-16T12:06:51.275-08:00Don't forget about the magic monoliths from be...Don't forget about the magic monoliths from beyond the cosmos...., panspermia + symbiosis = evolutionCNuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14152640304402402884noreply@blogger.com
